School Programs

Bring the magic of the bees to your school today!

Make it stand out.

Onyx has 6 years of experience educating children of all ages, and is available to bring bees to your school! She currently works with the Portland Waldorf School, Wild Cascara Naturalist School, and has created educational programs for homeschool groups throughout the PNW.

Meet Onyx

Onyx is a conservation style beekeeper with a MS in Fisheries + Wildlife, who has been tending hives in the PNW for 8 years. Her interests lie in providing honeybees with habitats that will support their health + vibrancy, as well as in education. Most of what we have been taught about beekeeping is rooted in industrial agriculture, and isn’t actually beneficial to the bees. Onyx is passionate about shedding light around the truth of who the bees really are, and how we can best support them.

Sharing the magic of these incredible creatures with children has also become a huge passion for her. Bees are integral to our survival. We need to instill a love and appreciation for pollinators within the next generation, as they will be the future stewards of our earth!

Jacqueline Freeman, co-author of What Bees Want

“I have had the pleasure of working alongside Onyx as a single honeybee collected nectar between us, and other times with 20,000 honeybees in the air around us. She was ecstatic in both situations. I know how she felt. She has a vision of bringing change to our relationship with bees and I find that totally delightful.”

Carey Kulongoski

“Learning about the magical bees with Onyx was so inspiring + informative. The children loved sharing their newly learned bee knowledge with everyone they met. Onyx is fantastic with children + we left passionate about helping to save these amazing creatures + spreading the wisdom we learned. I can't recommend Onyx enough as an advocate, teacher, + amazing human.”
