Conservation Beekeeping is an approach that prioritizes the health + vitality of the bees first, rather than human profit. This is a 3 hr introductory course that goes over all of the basic information you need to get started with bees through a bee-centric lens!

Come learn about bees and taste a variety of honeys from Onyx’s private collection.

Some of the topics we will cover:

  • What is conservation beekeeping? How does this differ from conventional methods?

  • How do bees live in the wild? What makes a good bee habitat?

  • Basic honeybee biology + behavior

  • Selecting the right hive for you

  • How to modify conventional hive styles to make them more bee-centric

  • Preparing for bees

  • Planting for bees

  • Sourcing your bees (pros + cons of packages, nucs, splits + swarms)

  • Intuitive communication with your bees
